Press: Somm in the City Praises Öömrang’s White Wines
Öömrang is a celebrated winery known for its exceptional blend of German heritage and Washington State’s unique climate. It is the result of founders Edmund and Christine Stoecklein’s deep-rooted passion for winemaking and their continuous drive towards excellence. Each bottle reflects their devotion to superior standards, sustainable practices, and the blend of tradition and innovation that defines Öömrang Wines.
This summer, Sara Jimenez, sommelier and creator of Somm in the City, had the pleasure of experiencing Öömrang’s commitment to quality through their exquisitely crafted white wine collection.
“When I tried that first crisp sip… I was hooked and knew this winery was onto something because I could drink a full case over time; easily!”
During the tasting, Sara explored three of the innovative white wines crafted by the Washington winery. The first was the 2021 Estate Siegerrebe, a varietal beloved for its delicate, floral aroma and semi-dry nature.
“This wine has perfect balance and is ideal for this summer weather we’ve been having! Pairing wise, I would choose a Peach Caprese Salad, Seafood, or maybe a nice farm fresh salad with plenty of berries, seeds, and a light dressing. The wine is so sensational it’ll make your dishes POP!”
Then, there was the 2021 Estate Sylvaner. This delectable wine is clear with a green hue, reflecting its fresh and light profile. With notes of floral and citrus, the Sylvaner is open and pleasant, perfect for any occasion.
“If you’re thinking pairings, some Grilled Oysters with Spinach and Bacon and Butter would be amazing with this wine as well as even ethnic cuisine such as mild Thai dishes and or some good ol’ grilled foods. This wine really takes well to many flavors, and is nice and playful so pairing this one should be fun and stress-free.”
The final wine Sara sampled was the 2021 Estate Müller-Thurgau. This exceptional vintage offers an aromatic profile of zesty citrus and delicate floral notes. Its lovely texture and sweetness create a refreshing and elegant wine.
“There is a peachiness in the finish and great acidity so this can easily stand up to food such as Fish Tacos, Grilled Shrimp, Buratta Salad with Cherries and Corn, and so many more dishes!”
Öömrang has truly cemented its place in the winemaking world. Sara Jimenez’s glowing review of their white wine collection highlights the exceptional quality and versatility of Öömrang’s offerings. With each sip, Öömrang invites wine lovers to savor their commitment to excellence and relentless craftsmanship. Here’s to many more years of remarkable winemaking at Öömrang. Cheers!
