A Serendipitous Wine Journey

The true essence of Öömrang's journey began not just with a shared love for wine, but with a family gathering and a basement wine making experiment. Edmund and Christine Stoecklein, initially moving to Stanwood, Washington for reasons unrelated to winemaking, found themselves drawn into the world of viticulture in an unexpected way. It was in November 2016, with their children visiting for Thanksgiving, that Christine decided to make the family gathering extra special by crafting wine in their basement. This homemade wine, surprisingly delightful, sparked a concern in Edmund, humorously wondering when a hobby crosses into the realm of a felony.

This light-hearted concern led to a serious discussion with their attorney and eventually to the incorporation of Öömrang in December 2016. Following this, they embarked on the meticulous process of obtaining the necessary licenses and planning their vineyards. By June of 2017, the Stoeckleins had planted their first two varietals, marking the official start of their winemaking venture.

Their 85-acre farm, Öömrang Hus, with approximately 22 acres dedicated to vineyards, was transformed into a thriving center for high-quality wine production. The vineyards, nurtured with the same passion that sparked their winery's inception, now boast four white wine varieties, with the exciting addition of three red varieties set for their first harvest this fall.

Öömrang's story is more than a tale of winemaking; it's a narrative about a serendipitous entry into the world of wines, fueled by family, curiosity, and a desire to create something memorable. From a Thanksgiving experiment to a fully operational winery, the Stoeckleins' journey illustrates their adaptability, dedication, and the joy of embracing new challenges. This journey from basement trials to flourishing vineyards embodies the spirit of Öömrang, where each bottle tells a story of family, innovation, and a deep connection to the land.
