Press: Pr%f Magazine Discovers the Oomph in Öömrang
Öömrang had the pleasure of hosting Eve Bushman, Wine Writer for Pr%f the Magazine and Author of “The Oomph in Öömrang, A Personal Tour of a Top Winery”, and her husband at the beautiful Öömrang Hüs, nestled in the scenic beauty of Washington State. Led by the passionate vision of Edmund and Christine Stoecklein, their winery embodies the spirit of authentic German White Wines while captivating with its innovative and sustainable approach to viticulture.
"Did you know that German wines, like Rieslings, are shown in elongated bottles to accentuate their aromas? That was one of the first things I thought of when I saw my first Öömrang bottle."
Each Öömrang bottle has a tapered, elongated neck, and is topped with a glass cork, enhancing the wine's rich perfumes.
Öömrang’s portfolio is an exploration of lesser-known German varietals, offering an adventure that deviates from the common Riesling to introduce Washington White Wines like Siegerrebe and Müller-Thurgau. Christine explained the benefits of Washington's latitude, mirroring Germany’s, which allows them to cultivate these distinctive varietals with great success. Starting as a basement winemaker, Christine's passion evolved into an award-winning winery venture.
At a private event in Las Vegas, Eve experienced the exceptional quality of Öömrang’s wines.
“I had the opportunity to taste several wines in the Öömrang portfolio. The event showcased several wineries from all over the globe, but Öömrang won the room's buzz. Other wine writers and wine lovers alike sent me to their table.”
Amidst global competitors, Öömrang captured attention with their Estate Sylvaner, Estate Müller-Thurgau, and sparkling varieties. The wines solidified their reputation as some of the best wines from Washington state.
“I gushed about the wines with exceptional fresh fruit, floral notes, low acid, incredible balance, only about 12% alcohol and most very dry.”
Upon invitation, Eve and her husband toured the estate, they admired the meticulously maintained vineyards and the breathtaking landscape, framed by majestic Skagit Bay and rugged mountains. The property features a gorgeous Norwegian Stave Church-styled chapel, skeet shooting, fishing, and stunning views. The winery is also preparing a modern bed and breakfast where guests can stay and enjoy the natural streams and beauty of the estate.
Öömrang also showcases their state-of-the-art distillery where they produce fruit brandy.
“We looked at their winery and distillery, housed in the same building but with large gates to separate them, as state law required. These were stainless steel tanks with floating lids (to prevent oxidation) on the left and copper stills on the right. Between the two was a large tasting table. I noticed a few tall bottles of brandy laid out. The bottles were Eau de Vie[,] and the flavors included Bartlett Pear, Raspberry, Raspberry Geist, Cherry, Apricot, Donut Peach, and Blueberry. The two I sampled, Blueberry and Cherry, were lovely, fresh, and light, and I was delighted to learn that they would soon be making Estate Grappa.”
Öömrang Winery not only produces some of the best Washington wines but creates an immersive experience that blends authentic German wine viticulture with Washington’s vibrant and unique terroir. A must-try for anyone seeking to explore the finest in German wine from a winery that produces the top Washington wines, right in your backyard.
